engage extends Super League deal

Tuesday 1st July 08
engage Mutual has extended its sponsorship of rugby league’s Super League for up to three years.

In an agreement worth a seven-figure sum each season, the Yorkshire-based financial services provider will continue to be the title sponsor of rugby’s elite league until the end of the 2010 season, with an option to extend to the 2011 season.

Paul Kimberley, the RFL’s commercial director, said: “We are delighted that engage has decided to extend its sponsorship of Super League.

“They’re an extremely proactive partner who clearly sees the benefits of aligning their brand with the quality and excitement of Super League.

“Each season the competition continues to go from strength to strength and with the support of engage we have added an extra dimension.

“Not only are we grateful for their continued support of the regular season, play-offs and Grand Final but also their enthusiasm to support our latest innovation, the Magic Weekend, where we play an entire round of fixtures in one venue over one weekend.

“This is an excellent time to be involved in rugby league. Attendances and viewing figures are on the up, participation numbers are growing and excitement is building as we approach the World Cup. We are grateful to engage for their continued support of the game.”

engage Mutual chief executive Andrew Haigh said: “We are delighted to confirm the extension of our Super League sponsorship.

engage continues to see real benefits in working with a sport that shares the same values and ambitions as our own and we are looking forward to being a part of Super league as it goes through some exciting changes in the coming years.”

engage became title sponsor of the Super League in 2005, and during their time involved in the sport it has gone from strength to strength:

Last year’s Super League was the best supported in the history of the competition – attracting an average weekly attendance of 10,264 per game per week.

Sky Sports viewing figures for this year’s competition taken at the end of May were up 10 per cent on the average viewing figures for the whole of last season.

April’s Leeds Rhinos V Wigan Warriors attracted the highest average and peak audience figures for any single regular season match.
