Wolves duo scoop engage awards
Warrington Wolves have received dual honours with Paul Cullen and Kevin Penny being named July’s engage Coach and Player of the Month respectively.
Cullen has overseen a complete reversal in form in July with three wins from three, taking his team back into the top six. And in doing so, the Wolves have tallied up an impressive 149 points with away wins at Hull KR and Huddersfield and at home against Salford.
July proved to be a stress reducing period for Cullen with speculation over this future at the club being ended after he accepted a 2 year extension to his contract. Cullen simply put their form and recent success down to a "Great team effort through July".
Teenage winger Kevin Penny continued his rise to prominence by winning the engage Player of the Month for July.
Penny, who started July with only 5 first team appearance under his belt, is proving to be a sensation at the Halliwell Jones. The speedster certainly caught the eye with a two try display at Huddersfield and an impressive 9 minute hat trick against Salford.
On receiving the award Penny said, " I am shocked, it is a great accolade, it's not only an honour for me, but the team as we have had an excellent unbeaten month.” He added, “It is a team effort and they give me great confidence, if they didn't pass me the ball I wouldn't score tries."
Penny has enjoyed a rapid promotion from the Wolves Junior Academy and made his engage Super League debut in Warrington’s final home game of 2006 against St Helens.
He also represented England Academy against France and Australian Schoolboys in 2006.
