Not only is Sunday the 17th July Father’s Day, it is also expected to be the welcome return of Danny Sculthorpe to the Wakefield side. Super League’s title sponsor engage Mutual caught up with the Sculthorpe family to find out how they plan to celebrate. The Sculthorpe family spend every Father’s Day together, a reflection of the close family unit they clearly are. As Paul’s attention turns to recovering from his recent Achilles injury as quickly as possible, Danny is hoping for a successful, high impact return when the Wildcats take on Warrington in their crucial game this Sunday. The whole family will be there to support Danny and both boys were keen to emphasise just how important their dad, Doug, has been to their respective careers. Paul spoke of just how crucial his help and support has been over the years. ‘From being young boys we have relied on our Dad for help and support. I can’t think of a game he has missed and I think he has a programme from every one too!’ Doug spoke of the immense pride he has when he watches his sons run out onto the pitch, although he seems to find it pretty nerve wracking when they face each other. ‘My proudest moment was watching them on opposing sides at Millennium Stadium in 2004 when St Helens and Wigan met in the Challenge Cup Final.’ He went on to add ‘I watch every game. If they are playing at the same time the family split up and I will watch one and my wife will watch the other.’ Let’s hope that the game on Father’s Day gives the Sculthorpes a reason to celebrate!
